Details of the Frank Bryant Award
Frank Bryant was one of the original twelve founder Members who started TADS Theatre Group in 1960.
He was elected President in 1970 and remained in that position until his untimely death in 1985. During his time with TADS Theatre Group he acted, directed, stage managed and above all applied his professional electrical engineering skills to the Group's advantage.
Throughout his Presidency he exerted a warm and benevolent influence on all Members and on the reputation and conduct of the Group. The Frank Bryant Memorial Award was originated to commemorate Frank's life and services to the Group.
The Trophy was specially commissioned from a local sculptress Sheila Jackman, who incorporated the familiar Masks of Comedy and Tragedy into the acrylic bronze design. The idea and principle of the Award was conceived in association with Frank's widow Dot Bryant who was appointed and remains a Life Vice-President of the Group.
It is awarded to the Member (or Members) who in the opinion of their peers has 'made the greatest contribution to the activities and reputation of the Group during the previous year'. All Members are eligible to vote and the Trophy is presented at TADS' Annual Dinner held each year during the summer months and has on many occasions been presented personally by Dot Bryant.
Not only does this Award help to preserve and perpetuate the memory of a warm-hearted and dedicated President, it also gives encouragement to all Members in their search for excellence.
