Tads Theatre Group “The Fountain Of Eternal Life” , January 2007

Directed and Produced by Anne Fowler

Yet another pantomime written by local man Jim Fowler, produced and directed by his wife Anne.  This double act manage to get the best out of their small cast, although I felt the whole show lacked a little in pace.

Highlights of the show for me were Katie Smith as DIZZY Lea Pryer as the QUEEN, both ladies characterised well, had good diction and lifted the piece when they were on stage.  The younger members all acquitted themselves well, I particularly liked Francesca Gosling as LUCINDA, again diction was good, and she was nicely girlie, without being too OTT.  Rory White’s PRINCE ROBIN would have benefited from a little more bite in his delivery, but this will come with experience.  MARK and SPENCER – the two numbskull ‘heavies’ – were suitably stupid and deadpan, and the COW, although only seen for a short while was very lovable!!  Simon Giltrow’s COOKIE was very Hyacinth Bucket at times, and I felt he could have given a bit more zing to the cooking scene, which was well-thought out but needed a bit of an uplift.

Lighting effects were good, although the woodland scene would have benefited from keeping the darker look longer, to create more atmosphere. Not one of TADS best, but nevertheless an enjoyable show, with plenty of audience participation, and one which kept particularly the younger members of the audience enthralled.
